First, what did not change?
- bonding results
- handling & application
- fields of application
Anyhow, a dramatic change in the legal situation, which allows selling of so called MDI only in a extremely restricted manner, forced AdhesionTechnics to develop a completely new technology for PU-adhesives. In doing so, various requirements were implemented into BELI-ZELL new generation.
Thus some legal and technical differences exist between new and previous generation:
- legal situation
- BELI-ZELL glues - new generation contain no MDI
- BELI-ZELL glues - new generation are not restricted in any way when selling to end consumers or to industrial consumers - the same handling as with BELI-ZELL of the first generation before 01.12.2010 (in the EC). Any other statements are definitively wrong!
- Furthermore BELI-ZELL glues - new generation are safer than the previous generation, which results in a classification in the lowest class possible for mixtures for which labelling is mandatory.
- product characteristics
- BELI-ZELL glues - new generation provide 100% performance of the previous generation
- plus clear glue, which colours white when curing - this is because of the encapsulated air in the expanded glue; the same physical phenomenon as with snow or with sparkeling water
- plus significantly improved UV radiation resistance
- plus simplified application and more precise dosing due to a modified viscosity
- plus lower consumption
- plus improved sanding / finishing of cured glue
- handling
- no changes - identical handling like BELI-ZELL previous generation

Due to its superstrong adhesive strength (force between glue and material) BELI-ZELL bonds a vast spectrum of materials typically used in industrial application, do-it-yourself and of course for making models, such as
- all kinds of modern foams /
- wood: blalsa, pine, obeche, plywood, coniferous wood, ...
- metal: aluminium, brass, steel, iron, ...
- foams / expanded material: polystyrene, polypropylene, polyurethane, ...
- laminate: glass fibre, carbon fibre, hybrid fibre, ...
- mineral material: plaster, stone, eternit, ...
- paper, cardbord

BELI-ZELL is a single component polyurethane adhesive that reacts with the moisture content of material, air humidity or added water. BELI-ZELL expands about three times of its original volume during setting time. Even if additional water is applied (e.g. bonding metals) the bonding quality does not deteriorate. So just you follow some very simple instructions, which you can download.
Most important: use BELI-ZELL sparingly and fix the assembled parts not less than setting time last.
Contrary to instant glues the requirements for the bonding joint are easy to meet, when BELI-ZELL is used:
As with all kinds of glues make sure that the joining areas are free of grease, release agent and dust - degrease and sand the workpiece. In practice on almost all industrial manufactured workpieces you will find at least remnants of relasing agent, regardless of whether made in moulds or just plain sheets.
When using modern foams it is not necessary to degrease and sand the joining areas, if the joining areas have been cut or broken recently.

BELI-ZELL is a single component polyurethane adhesive that reacts with the air humidity that diffuses through the plastics made precision applicator. By this the remaining BELI-ZELL in the cannula might cure slowly over a long time and only at the very top of the applicator. Hence the plastic of the applicator does not interact with BELI-ZELL, it is easy to clean the cannula:
Keep applicator and tube shoulder always clean and replace cap carefully. If the applicator is clogged, then push back cured BELI-ZELL with a little wire, needle or the like. If you want to clean the applicator thoroughly, then unscrew the applicator and push the cured BELI-ZELL out. Unscrewing the applicator is easy unless you let cure not only minor remnants of BELI-ZELL at the foot of the applicator and the tube shoulder. Because the tube is made of aluminium, which BELI-ZELL bonds excellent but on the other hand avoids moisture to diffuse through. In this case do not use a plier to unscrew the cannula - in most cases this will end up in a twisted or damaged tube. Just press the foot of the applicator with a plier slightly together at different positions to crack off the cured BELI-ZELL.
While using BELI-ZELL just close the applicator with a nail or put it bottom-up on a pin / nail which is fixed on a board. If there is no BELI-ZELL at the top of applicator nothing can cure and clog the cannula. That's the way professional craftsmen do.

To store BELI-ZELL properly is very simple:
- The general rule is: store BELI-ZELL in a dry and cool (> 15°C / 59°F) place. The drawer of your workplace or on the workbench is well suited. Examples for bad places are sunny windowsills, the glove compartment of your car or the fridge.
- Stored this way sealed / unopened tubes of BELI-ZELL will be usable for many years in most cases.
- Store open tubes in bags with seal flaps in order to minimize circulation of air.

Sorry, we cannot anwer that question, because we do not understand why this should be true.
Putting it simply, a modern foam is expanded raw material (e.g. styrene), which consists of bigger or smaller air-filled cavities surrounded by very thin cell walls. As a basic principle this is true for all kinds of foams and irrespective of its trade names. For example polystyrene foams are available under various trade names, but the basic properties remain unchanged.
Anyhow, let us compare the instant glue and BELI-ZELL regarding foams. First instant glue:
- Instant glues are ideally suited for very well prepared joining areas, which have to be quite small, plane and aligned precisely in shape.
- Best results are achieved only when the glue line is between 0.05mm and 0.1mm (which special instant glues up to 0.2mm).
- Cured instant glue is brittle and inelastic. In combination with the elastic foams this induces a force progression with extreme force peaks in the bonding joint and nearby foam - very unfavourable. Such bonding jonts clearly tend to break in short time - as everybody knows from his own experience.
- Only the top layer of the joining area will be bonded, because of the fast setting speed. While this works pretty well with solid material, it does not work adequately with foam (remember: air-filled cavities and thin cells walls).
- Reworking and sanding is difficult as usually not the very hard instant glue but the much more soft foam is removed.
BELI-ZELL glues
- require neither a high-level preparation of the surface of the joining area nor are they limited to small joining areas.
- require no plane surfaces and the glue line may vary widely. Hence the (almost not exisiting) requirements can be meet easily and with little effort.
- BELI-ZELL glues remain slightly flexible after curing, which is much more suitable for foams and its properties.
- Long setting time makes it possible to penetrate deply into the bonded material. Thus an intensive interlocking / toothing between BELI-ZELL and foam results.
- Cured BELI-ZELL is much more soft than cured instant glue. Hence cured BELI-ZELL can be easily reworked and less damage to the foam occures.
These considerations are valid for all kinds of "porous" material, such as wood, foams, laminate or mineral material.
If you now are wondering, why BELI-ZELL does also work with metal? In this case the outstanding adhesive strength (force between glue and material) of BELI-ZELL is decisive; interlocking / toothing or cohesive strength (force wíthin the glue) are secondary.
